Death Before the Wedding (2025) Review: A Polished Rom-Com with Mixed Recepti

Imagine “Death before The Wedding” a heartwarming wedding comedy where a bride-to-be introduces her fiancé to her eccentric family, only to find their cultural differences and a looming family crisis threaten to derail the celebrations. This is the essence of “Death Before the Wedding,” a Polish film that premiered on Netflix on February 12th, 2025.

The movie is directed by Tomasz Konecki, based out of Poland. He has directed many films including Their Lucky Stars, Letter To Santa, Kiss, Kiss! and Iwona Ogonowska-Konecka, blends humor with family drama, exploring themes of love, tradition, and acceptance. But does it deliver on its promise of lighthearted entertainment? Check out the below reviews and opinions from Indian entertainment critics and social media to find out if it is binge worthy?

In this movie, we see parents who are really excited about their daughter’s graduation, but not for wedding. However, daughter wants to get married, but her father does not approve and disappointed. As the story unfolds, I learn that the parents work at a cheese factory—not as managers, just like other employees. When the factory manager dies accidentally, the CEO of the cheese factory arrives, planning to shut it down. This stads a big problem front of the parents. However, before shutting it down, the CEO’s wife learns about the parents’ trouble some situation. Her mother tells her that their daughter is getting married but the father is unhappy, the CEO’s wife decide to offer an arrange the wedding for them.

Because of this, the CEO decides to suspend the sale of the cheese factory. The wife takes charge of arranging the wedding, leading to an interesting turn of events and sometimes makes you complicated. Even while watching, I felt the story was a bit puzzling at times. However, overall, the movie was quite funny, the story revolves around the parents, their daughter, and her fiancé—who happens to be Black. As an audience member, you might also be surprised by this, as the characters in the film point out that it’s rare to see a Black person in Poland.

That being said, I did enjoy the film. The storyline felt a bit stretched, but at its core, it focuses on family, tradition, and the cheese business. The family has been running the cheese factory for generations, producing a unique type of cheese. I found quite intriguing aspect of the movie.

The tension between the father and his future son-in-law was another compelling part of the story. All the actors did a great job, making their characters feel real and relatable. The daughter, her fiancé, and the parents had great chemistry, and the power dynamics between the husband and wife in the movie were also interesting to watch.

While the movie dragged a bit in some parts, it remained entertaining overall. The acting was solid, the characters were likable, and the direction was decent. One of the highlights for me was the beautiful location where it was filmed. I think many people will enjoy this movie, as I certainly did.
